Not yet. While the benchmark establishes a global framework for assessing energy and GHG emissions performance, it is designed so that we will be able to account for regional variations in fuel types and grid emission factors in future iterations.
Facilities in regions that rely on higher-emission fuels, such as coal, will naturally have different baseline performance compared to those operating in areas with cleaner energy sources. To address this, Aii intends to develop regional emissions targets alongside the global benchmark figures for version 1.0. These regional targets will enable facilities to assess their performance relative to peers operating under similar energy conditions, ensuring fair and meaningful comparisons across geographies.
This future enhancement will provide both a global reference point for overall progress and a regional context that supports equitable benchmarking and more accurate identification of improvement opportunities.
