The Aii Benchmark has been designed to complement, rather than replace, existing tools such as the Higg Facility Environmental Module. While many existing frameworks collect facility-level data on total energy use and emissions, the Aii Benchmark provides additional process-level detail, allowing comparisons between specific manufacturing stages within and across facilities.
To support data consistency, the benchmark relies on parameters that are commonly tracked through other environmental reporting systems, including total fuel use, grid electricity consumption, and production volumes. These inputs can, and are intended to, align with data already collected through Higg FEM or similar tools, reducing duplication and ensuring comparability across platforms.
As part of the Benchmark governance process, the Benchmark Advisory Committee (BAC) will oversee the development of additional alignment and validation procedures. The BAC will build upon the work completed by the Technical Review Committee (TRC), ensuring data definitions and reporting boundaries remain consistent with other industry frameworks.
