To reflect the diversity of materials and manufacturing processes across the textile sector, the benchmark is structured around model processes that represent typical operations for each material and process type rather than a single, generic standard.
The tool currently includes the most common fiber, yarn, fabric, and garment production methods (including spinning, knitting, weaving, and wet processing), defined using technical input from experts and validated by the Technical Review Committee. For each process, energy and emissions intensity figures are developed based on typical fuel use, efficiencies, and machine utilization, enabling objective comparisons across facilities and regions. The calculation methodology utilizes environmental factory data provided by Worldly.
