Letter from our President
Welcome to the Apparel Impact Institute website! Thank you for visiting. As you navigate through our site, we hope your experience is informative and valuable. We aim to be the industry-leading resource
for all apparel brands that want to scale measurable impact.
We are living in an exciting time for the apparel industry. I am inspired by the increased commitment to sustainability and sense of urgency around the need to reduce negative impacts and accelerate positive ones. However, we are at that critical point for our planet where we need to translate this momentum into real action immediately. Every player across the apparel & footwear industry’s value chain, large and small, has the collective power to do just that.
When we launched Aii at the end of 2017, we set out to serve as a solutions-oriented industry partner that would aggregate brands, manufacturers and industry stakeholders to select, fund and scale high-impact projects that dramatically and measurably improve the sustainability outcomes of the apparel and footwear industry.Continue Reading
To do that requires bringing industry players together to align on strategy, funding and collective commitments, thus reducing the fragmentation among the many programs that exist and want to achieve impact. By focusing together on projects that scale, we can meet the critical environmental and social outcomes brands and consumers are seeking.
We are proud to conduct this work through our inaugural initiative, Mill/ impact, which focuses on aligning and scaling mill improvements in the industry by developing a singular framework that can be applied universally. No other apparel or fashion program works towards reduction at this level across thousands of industry partners. Our goal is to reach 2,000 mills by 2024 globally. On average, the mills who have implemented resource efficiency programs yield 10% CO2 reductions, 20% water savings and $440,000 savings after 14 months – funding that can be reinvested in sustainable initiatives. In the spirit of collaboration, I invite you to reach out and contact our team if you’d like to learn more or discuss a potential project. We want to hear from you and support you on your sustainability journey.
Let’s work together to ensure that all apparel and footwear is produced with a positive impact on people and the planet.
