Precision Development (PxD)
Leaf Color Charts

This project, delivered by Precision Development (PxD), reduces emissions from the production of natural fibers by addressing the inefficient use of nitrogen fertilizer in cotton cultivation in India. Leaf Color Charts (LCCs) are a site-specific nutrient management tool which provides farmers with precise, real-time nitrogen fertilizer recommendations. LCCs consist of a plastic strip showing a range in shades of green and require minimal background knowledge for farmers to use.

Funding contributions

CSP grant funds will be used to procure the Leaf Color Charts, develop training materials, and cover additional costs associated with project management and delivery of the project. This will include all associated monitoring and reporting of the project impact and associated third party validation of the outcomes.

Implementation Plan

In Year 1, PxD will establish at least 1 collaboration with a government, nonprofit, or private scaling partner in India; create a comprehensive LCC distribution and program monitoring plan; and develop a suite of training materials, including train-the-trainer materials. PxD will work in coordination with its partners to deliver LCCs to selected cotton farmers and disseminate the training materials. PxD will monitor activities and analyze collected data.

In Year 2, PxD will prepare a report on the greenhouse gas (GHG) changes observed in Year 1 due to the LCC intervention, which will be shared with all stakeholders. PxD will refine the LCC scaling model in coordination with partner organizations and develop an expansion plan that includes continued monitoring and analysis.
