Apparel Impact Institute Welcomes Chief of Staff Kay Bloomberg

SAN FRANCISCO (Aug. 23, 2022) – Apparel Impact Institute (Aii), a leading organization for driving scalable solutions for the apparel and footwear industry, is pleased to welcome Kay Bloomberg as Chief of Staff.

In this position, Bloomberg will be responsible for internal initiatives, working alongside Aii’s leadership team, as well as managing stakeholder engagement, including major fashion industry brands and manufacturers, NGOs and foundations. This newly created position is critical to the fulfillment of Aii’s mission to execute its strategic plan to help the apparel ecosystem address the climate crisis and other critical environmental impacts. Bloomberg will report to Aii President Lewis Perkins.

“We are excited  to welcome Kay  to the team,” said Perkins. “Her experience is a great fit for the next stage of Aii. As we continue to grow, she will be a critical member of the leadership of Aii and help ensure our external operations are developed in the smartest way possible to allow us to accelerate our mission and reach our goals.”

Bloomberg is an operations leader with 10 years of experience at early-stage startups and scaleups in the education technology space. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Connecticut School of Business and taught with Teach for America before transitioning into the tech sector. Since then, she has worked with software companies, striving to close the educational achievement gap in the United States, helping build and scale them from their first few employees to their first few hundred.

Throughout her career, Bloomberg has been focused on operational excellence and process improvement, customer and client success, and people operations and talent development. She has worked for fully distributed organizations since 2012 and is passionate about building high-performing teams and supportive, inclusive company culture in a remote environment.

“At this moment when the climate crisis is escalating rapidly, I’m thrilled to be joining the effort to accelerate positive impact in the apparel industry,” said Bloomberg. “As Chief of Staff, my job is to ensure that Aii runs like a well-oiled machine — optimizing processes, increasing organizational effectiveness and amplifying the efforts of the incredible executive team. I’m looking forward to bringing best practices from the startup world and applying them to this critical work.”
