Biomass Torrefaction

This project eliminates GHG emissions from heat generation by piloting the world’s first commercial-scale torrefaction plant using cotton stalks to produce energy-dense biomass. It replaces coal in textile steam boilers as a drop-in fuel, avoiding costly new infrastructure and enabling coal phase-out without high CAPEX. The CSP grant will fund fabrication and procurement of critical equipment for the 100 TPD torrefaction unit.

To advance this initiative, Peak Sustainability Ventures — a firm specializing in scaling innovative technologies is supporting Lumen Biofuels Private Limited. This project represents the world’s first commercial-scale torrefaction initiative utilizing cotton stalks as feedstock.
